Please enjoy Barbara’s statement below.
I am delighted to participate in a small way in the rebirth of the namesake of our sport. Figure Skating has changed a great deal over the years and it is wonderful to see Figures being shown to the new generation of skaters. I hope more will search out and enjoy figures and learn about the foundation of the sport.
Barbara Wagner and Bob Paul from Canada changed the world of pair figure skating with their technical proficiency, consistency and innovation. Barbara and Bob both grew up in Toronto, Canada and were teamed up by their coach Sheldon Galbraith (who also coached Barbara Ann Scott to her Olympic Gold Medal, and Donald Jackson to his World title in Prague in 1962). Wagner and Paul were the first World and Olympic Pair Champions to individually pass the gold figure, free skating and gold pair tests. They also set the trend for significant height difference between partners. Barbara Wagner and Bob Paul won 5 Canadian National titles, 2 North American titles, 4 World titles and the Olympic Gold in 1960.
The World Figure Championship & Figure Festival is sanctioned/endorsed by World Figure Sport (WFS) #2016WFC&FF. WFS is the world organization for the sport discipline of Figures in ice skating.
